American Ashton Lambie Breaks Individual Pursuit World Record

At the Pan American Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico, American Ashton Lambie set a new world record in the Individual Pursuit. Wait, no, that's not entirely correct. Lambie obliterated the previous record of 4:10.534 set by Australian Jack Bobridge back in 2011 by posting a time of 4:07.251. That's over 3 seconds faster, and a veritable eternity when it comes to track racing. Needless to say, Lambie won the event, and also took home first place in the Team Pursuit competition, as well, along with his USA Cycling teammates.

Lambie started racing on a grass track in Lawrence, Kansas, and progressed through the ranks of the American track racing scene, eventually landing a spot on Team USA in 2017.

“It’s incredibly humbling to think about this past year,” Lambie said. “It’s been a lot of hard work, but trusting the process, having the support, and top level equipment all adds up to amazing results. I didn't know [I had set a world record] right at the finish line. I finished, rolled around another lap, then my coach told me the time and I was totally blown away. It took me a bit to realize I was the first guy to go under four ten."
