Daniela Ryf Wins Record Fourth 70.3 World Championship

At 31 years old, Daniela Ryf has already etched her place into the records books. Heading into this past weekend's 70.3 World Championship in South Africa, the Swiss star had already won the prestigious event three times, in addition to winning the Kona World Championship three times, as well. She has nothing to prove, and will certainly go down in history as one of the sport's all-time greats. But Ryf doesn't want to be just one of the all-time greats. She's a born competitor, and is constantly pushing herself to be better, fitter, and faster.

This past weekend, she obliterated the field in South Africa, completing the swim in a time of 24:24, followed by a 2:15:27 bike split (the fastest throughout the whole event), and finished with a 1:16:59 run. All told, she took the win in a total time of 4:01:12.
No triathlete, male or female, has won as many 70.3 world titles.

"I'm very happy to win in such a strong field," said Ryf. "After the swim leg, the zipper on my race suit broke so I was a little less aerodynamic, but I tried not to pay too much attention to that. The bike course was very, very hard. We were pushing the limits the whole time. The roads were rough and I didn't feel like I was making fast progress.

"This title is really unique. To win here in South Africa with the great atmosphere and really enthusiastic people is unforgettable."

After the race, Ryf flew back to her home in Switzerland where she'll spend some time before heading to Hawaii to prepare for her campaign for a fourth consecutive Kona World Championship on October 13.
