Here's Everything You Need To Know About Our New Bike Naming System

What’s in a name? Well, if you’ve perused our site lately, and especially if you’re a longtime Felt fan, you may have noticed that our latest bikes have some new and unique names. These include models like the B | Performance | Ultegra Mix triathlon bike and the FR | Advanced | 105 road bike. In an effort to help riders better understand the distinguishing characteristics amongst the bikes in our lineup, we’ve introduced a contemporary naming system that showcases the three key traits of each and every model. Let’s use the FR | Advanced | 105 as an example.

  • The first part of the name is the model series. In this case, it’s our FR road bike, our all-around racing platform and the preferred steed of both the Rally UHC Cycling and TWENTY20 Pro Cycling race teams.

  • The second part of the name refers to the type of carbon fiber and/or the level of carbon construction used to create the bike. In this case, “Advanced” refers to a bike with a frame comprised principally of UHC Advanced carbon fiber. Note that the carbon referenced in the model name is by no means the only type of material used in its construction. Like all of our bikes, the FR | Advanced series utilizes several types of carbon within a complex layup schedule to optimize performance and ride quality. The materials utilized in the bike’s fork may also differ.

  • The third and final part of the name refers to the type of drivetrain components most prevalent on that particular model. In the case of the FR | Advanced | 105, the “105” refers to Shimano’s 105 groupset. Also note that, like the frame material designation, the component designation is not necessarily all-encompassing. This means that the model may include a full Shimano 105 groupset, or it may indicate that Shimano 105 components are the most prevalent in the complete build. Be sure to check the model’s “Tech Specs” section to see the full list of components.

  • Finally, it's worth noting that for our aluminum frame bikes, we're keeping things old school with our classic numerical designations. There are far fewer of them in our product lineup compared to carbon frame models, so it shouldn't be too hard to keep track of. If you see a bike like the Redemption | 50 or the Broam | 30, it has an aluminum frame.

We’ll be adding more incredible new bikes to our website over the coming months, so look for all of them to feature some fresh nomenclature.
